King Charles III Diagnosed with Cancer: Buckingham Palace Announces Health Concerns
King Charles III, aged 75, has been diagnosed with cancer, as revealed by Buckingham Palace in a statement on Monday. The announcement follows the recent discharge of both Princess Kate and King Charles from a private London clinic after undergoing medical procedures.
The palace disclosed that the cancer diagnosis surfaced during King Charles's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement when a separate issue of concern was identified. Although the statement did not specify the cancer's stage, it clarified that Charles did not have prostate cancer.
Last week, both Kate and King Charles underwent medical procedures at the private London clinic. The king had a "corrective procedure" for an enlarged prostate, while Kate, aged 42, underwent unspecified abdominal surgery on January 17.
The statement from Buckingham Palace indicated that King Charles has commenced a schedule of regular treatments. In light of this, doctors have advised him to postpone public-facing duties. The monarch chose to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation about his condition and to contribute to public understanding for those worldwide affected by cancer.
King Charles III ascended the throne in May, months after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for an impressive 70 years. The coronation ceremony took place in December. Meanwhile, Princess Kate is still in recovery, with Prince William planning to return to his royal duties by attending the London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner on Wednesday. Kensington Palace mentioned that the Princess of Wales is unlikely to resume her royal duties before Easter on March 31, with no specified date for the king's return to duties.
